Understanding and Managing Depression with Elora Mind and Body

Each of us has encountered periods of low mood, especially when going through grief or significant life changes.

Nevertheless, those coping with Depression (major depressive disorder) frequently contend with persistent symptoms that can last for an extended period, occasionally without an obvious cause. Depression is a mood disorder that can affect individuals regardless of their gender, race, age, or socioeconomic background.

Types of Depression

There are different types of depression, beyond major depressive disorder, and the symptoms may vary based on the kind. Specific events, body rhythms, or times of the year trigger some types of Depression.

  • Seasonal Affective disorder is heightened during winter but wanes during spring and summer.

  • Prenatal or postnatal depression affects mothers, especially those who experienced traumatic pregnancies, births, or stressful events leading up to pregnancy.

  • Pre-menstrual dysphoric depression happens to women during certain times of their menstrual cycles. The symptoms usually begin to diminish after their periods.

Benefits of receiving a diagnosis

An accurate diagnosis is the first step towards managing the condition. It helps in understanding the challenges you’re facing and why you’re facing them. This can provide a sense of relief and eliminate the feeling of self-blame or confusion about certain behaviors.
